The Rugby Club Toulonnais Academy has been accredited by the Sports Ministry since November 2002 although it has been in operation since 1998. This accreditation was renewed in June 2006.
The objective of the Academy programme is two-fold : to offer young players a high standard of sports training with a view to becoming a professional player and to ensure them a school, university or vocational education, indispensable to them after their rugby careers.
In the 2006-2007 season the Academy handled 21 players aged 18 to 22. They played in the Junior Reichel, Espoir and Rugby Club Toulonnais squads.
90% of the players were from the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region.
One of the main goals of the Academy is to adapt the sports and educational timetables. To this end the Academy has agreements with local schools, the University and private educational institutes, and also various local youth associations.
The Academy's structure and resources are also used to promote certain values - education, teaching skills, respect, training and social integration - by participating in a project called « Balle Ovale » (Oval Ball) which introduces primary school children to the game of rugby and its values, and the methods used to keep track of the Academy players throughout their schooling also benefit other youngsters in the Club, in particular those from outside the Toulon area.
In addition, for the 2006-2007 season, the Academy again offered those interested a training course for the BEES Rugby 1er degree (Diploma in Sport) in partnership with local government youth and sports bodies (DDJS, CREPS). Through these activities, the Rugby Club Toulonnais Academy shows its determination to help not only its own players, but also other youngsters, to benefit from its resources and live their sport to the full, giving them every opportunity to follow a proper training course to prepare them for their future role in society.
